George Bush Jr. is a fair communicator. Ronald Reagan was a GREAT
communicator. Jimmy Carter is a fair speaker, but Bill Clinton is a GREAT
speaker. John McCain appeared uncomfortable while Barack Obama "owned" the
platform during their debates and appearances.
People stand out in our minds as leaders
because they are GREAT speakers and communicators. The gap between good and GREAT is
enormous, and professional speaker training (as opposed to speech training)
can separate you from your competition like nothing else. I specialize in
closing that gap!
In fact, without
professional speaking skills, most politicians are limited to on-on-one communication when
it comes to making an emotional connection.
The power of public speaking within the
political arena defines your legacy and your continued success. If you don't believe
this simple fact, you need only to reflect back to some of the recent political
debates. Those who appear as polished, poised speakers (and get their message across
to the voters) will always have an enormous advantage over their rivals. Being able
to speak in public demands you acquire the mindset of an entertainer - an individual with
personality and wit ... it requires a working knowledge of clever writing, theatrical
talents, and an understanding of "The Power of the Platform". Those who
are great leaders are constantly recognized as great
speakers.
When it comes to debates,
speaking opportunities, and public appearances ...
Stop
thinking of yourself as a "Politician". Start
thinking of yourself as an Educator and a Communicator!
A successful politician understands the
concepts and formulas for creating, rehearsing, and delivering TOP LEVEL speeches.
On the platform, you need to dominate your competitors, and you need to "own the
stage". If you are boring, lack-luster, and unenthusiastic, you will never be
influential, and worse, you open the door to a competitor (opposing candidate) who might
be a better public speaker than you. This is the one place you can quickly WIN or
LOSE an election. It is not what you know, but rather how you
say it that counts in the polls. Remember the phrase, "First
Impressions ... "?
People remember two
types of public speakers
the very good,
and the very bad. The rest of them (the mediocre) are simply boring
and easily forgettable. The vast majority of
speakers and politicians fall into this category of boring because they fail
to connect with their audience. They either
lecture from an outline, read from note cards (or the tele-prompter), or worse case
scenario, they try to wing it. As
a professional-level speaker, if you cant remember your speech, why should
anyone else want to remember it? Professional
actors dont wing it, professional singers
dont wing it, professional entertainers
dont wing it
and neither should
you!
People will remember your
stories and "keynote phrases" long after they forget the content of your
speeches. Here are just a few examples:
" ... ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your
country." J.F. Kennedy
Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to
realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.
Ronald Reagan
"Any lady who is first lady likes being first lady. I don't care what they
say, they like it. Richard Nixon
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to
sit down and listen. Winston Churchill
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the
credit. Harry Truman
"The real tragedy is when people don't have the training to speak well or the
intelligence to remain silent" - Matt Rix
You need to stand out from the crowd to stand
out from among your competitors and rivals and you
need positive media coverage. If you are a GREAT speaker, the media will WANT to be
around you. If you are able to create and DELIVER phenomenal "snippets",
snappy "one-liners" or "quotable quotes", you gain instant name
recognition a very valuable commodity in today's
political environment.
"If
You Can't Tell It ... You Can't SELL IT" !!!
By your mastery of the
spoken word, you not only define your legacy and success within the political community,
you gain the ability to be recognized as a leader. Given the choice, which would you
choose to become; a mediocre speaker, or a persuasive, motivational
personality?
The power of
persuasive public speaking is unrivaled ...
Being able to entertain, influence, and motivate can
propel you to the top ...
But only if you know how to create and deliver an
entertaining, persuasive professional presentation!
