Facts Tell, but Stories SELL!

As a business owner or upper level executive, you realize your top managers and key employees have many opportunities to speak in front of professional and service organizations, as well as potential clients.   You also know they will most likely base their presentations on your company's products and services.  The question is, will they be persuasive and unforgettable professional-level speakers, or will they be boring, mediocre note-readers?  How they appear to an audience is a direct reflection on your company -- AND ON YOU!!

The ability to speak in front of an audience is an invaluable skill, yet few business leaders understand how to utilize public speaking to increase sales, motivate employees, or to influence their career path.  All of us need to communicate our ideas and share our viewpoint, but unless we know how to influence and inspire others, we are missing significant opportunities to help build our business and propel our careers to the next level.  In reality, the best speakers (and salespeople) are story-tellers, using stories for emphasis within their presentations.  Great speakers think of themselves as emtertainers - not lecturers!  Simply put, Facts Tell, but Stories Sell !

Lawyers remind us that the facts of the case are not as important as the story surrounding (and explaining) the facts.  Recently, I was asked to tutor a group of trial defense lawyers on becoming better speakers and story tellers, using the facts of their cases.  Anyone can recite a list of facts, but few know how use the facts to tell a story.  Again -- Facts Tell, but Stories Sell !

Being able to persuade and motivate can propel individuals to the top of their profession, and give them a huge advantage over those who do not know how to create and deliver an entertaining keynote or platform presentation.   The power of public speaking is unrivaled in the business world, but only if you know how to create and deliver an entertaining, professional platform presentation!

Great platform speakers command a high degree of respect and prestige, and great speakers are always in demand.  One 20-minute speech has the ability to double or triple your income, and great presentations can open the doors of opportunity that are closed to over 96% of the population.  The better you speak, the more people want to hear what you have to say -- about you, about your business, or about your profession.  Some say it gives you an unfair advantage over your rivals – how about that – an unfair advantage – just for the ability to speak in public!  All you have to remember is this – Facts Tell, but Stories Sell !
